Acyclovir is the drug that is used to treat infections that are caused due to some viruses. It is also used to treat cold shingles, chickenpox and cold sores. In case of the genital herpes, this medication can be prescribed by the doctor.

People who use to have constant outbreaks, Acyclovir can be prescribed in order to reduce the frequent occurrences. This is an anti-viral medication. Acyclovir can be used to lessen up the severity as well as length of such outbreaks. It is not designed to cure the infections, as these viruses can live in human body even during the outbreaks.

Possible side effects:

Nausea is the most common side effects that people can experience while taking Acyclovir. Dizziness, mood swings, drowsiness and trouble in speaking are some other side effects of this drug. Some time you can even feel unusual pain in the back or problem with the kidney. However, people using this drug usually never come across major side effects.
