Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP)

A Basic Metabolic Panel is conducted in order to get information about the status and health of your kidneys, electrolyte levels, glucose levels and the acid/base balance.

Basic Metabolic Panel is also commonly known as or referred to as BMP, Chemistry Panel, Chemistry Screen, Chem 7, SMA 7 and SMAC7.

A Basic Metabolic Panel can be taken during a routine check-up or when you are hospitalized. The sample required is a simple blood draw from a vein in your arm. You may be required to fast up to 12 hours before the blood draw to give accurate test results.
