Installing RAM into your computer is a very easy thing to do. As far as computers go, it is a good first thing to learn about when working with the inner workings for your computer.
Turn off your computer and unplug the power for safety
Open up the chassis of the computer
Identify the DIMM slots on the motherboard; this is most likely 2-4 long slots 4"-5" and somewhere on the top half of the motherboard; these slots will likely have one or two memory chips already installed
If you bought a set of new larger RAM chips, proceed by removing the old RAM. The RAM should come out easily, there are likely one or two clips holding the RAM in place. Release these clips to remove the RAM.
Next, line up the gold connections on your new memory chips and proceed to insert them into the motherboard. This may require a bit of force to get them to lock into place but not too much. If they are refusing to insert, mark sure there is nothing in the way and that they are lined up correctly.
After the RAM is securely installed, you put the chassis back together, plug in the computer and proceed to boot up.
The computer should adjust to the new RAM on it’s own. If there is any difficulty or the computer is not acting right, proceed to remove the RAM and install one chip at a time to eliminate any defects. If there are still problems, remove the RAM all together and insert the old RAM. If the computer boots up fine, there may be a problem with the new RAM being compatible.
